About Khatu Shyamji Temple
Khatu Shyamji Temple: The Divine Witness of the Mahabharata
Located in Khatu village in Rajasthan’s Sikar district, the Khatu Shyamji Temple is a deeply venerated Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Krishna's incarnation as Barbarika, the valorous grandson of Bhima and son of Ghatotkacha.
- According to legend, Barbarika vowed to fight for the weaker side in the Kurukshetra war. Lord Krishna, recognizing the implications of his immense power, tested his devotion. Pleased by his unwavering faith, Krishna granted him a unique boon: his severed head would witness the war from a hilltop.
- The discovery of this head in Khatu led to the establishment of the temple, which has since become a center of mass devotion.
Architecturally, the temple features:
- Construction in white marble and lime mortar
- Silver-adorned sanctum doors
- Classic Rajasthani design elements enhancing its sacred charm
Every year, millions of devotees visit to seek blessings, particularly during the Phalgun Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in Rajasthan.
The Khatu Shyamji Temple is not just a place of worship it's a living symbol of faith, sacrifice, and divine grace.
